In today’s modern society, it’s easy to get jaded by all of the technology that we have at our disposal. Our grandparents never had it so good, and yet we seem to take it all for granted. One arena that is slowly becoming automated is cleaning, and it could not have happened soon enough. Instead of having to maintain a household on your own by sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming, now you can outsource it to a machine.
While early robot vacuums left a lot to be desired, this next generation of robo-maids is up to the task of keeping your home spic and span all day long. In fact, they are so good that you can find models that are ideal for specific floors. In this case, we are going to be looking at robot vacuums that work best for tile floors. Keep in mind, however, that most of these models can work on all flooring types, but if you have tile then these will be your best bet. Just know that if you have carpet or hardwood as well that they can be up to the challenge if necessary.

One of the biggest hurdles that robot vacuums face is the fact that it’s incredibly hard to navigate around furniture. Thankfully, as technology progresses it becomes easier, and the ILIFE is a perfect example of that. While not perfect, this robot manages to use algorithms and mapping to ensure that it can maneuver around most obstacles with ease. Older robots would move until they bumped into something, but that was highly inefficient and wasn’t conducive to getting the whole floor clean.
In this case, the robot figures out where to go beforehand so that it spends less time bumping and more time cleaning.
As far as performance goes, this particular unit is best on carpet, but it can do a great job on tile floors as well. The amount of suction is incredible, and the brushes are excellent about picking up most dirt and debris. It can’t do wet cleaning, though, so don’t expect it to mop up spills or leaks. Overall, this is a decent vacuum that can work in most homes.
As far as robot vacuum brands go, the most well known and respected is by far iRobot. The Roomba is synonymous with the industry, which is why most people use the name interchangeably with robot vacuum.
In this case, however, what you are getting is not a vacuum per se. Instead, this is a revolutionary mopping system that can keep your tile floors clean. It also works beautifully on hardwood and stone floors, so you don’t have to mop yourself ever again.
The reason that this machine is so amazing is that it is specifically designed for wet cleaning. Other robot vacuums have a mop attachment but no way to spray water on the floor, meaning that you either have to get the floor damp ahead of time (not wet though), or replace the mop head constantly. With the Braava, though, it sprays as it goes so all you have to do is change the liquid capsule each time.
There are three cleaning modes on this robot: wet, damp, and dry, making it versatile as well as reliable. It won’t work on carpeting or anything, but it will keep your tiles sparkling all day long. Best of all, its square design ensures that it can reach into corners with ease.
When the Roomba first came out, it was more of a novelty than anything, but as we mentioned above, this next generation is better than ever. In this case, the 650 model is the standard unit that you can get from iRobot, meaning that if you are new to the whole “robot vacuum” thing, then this is a fantastic place to start.
What makes the Roomba so great is the fact that it automatically adjusts to your flooring type and it comes with three stages of cleaning to ensure that no dirt is left behind.
As a standard model, you get all of the primary features, including iRobot’s proprietary navigation software, the ability to schedule up to seven cleanings in advance, and up to an hour of runtime between charges. Also, Roomba Vacuums always return to the docking station when it’s time to recharge, meaning that you can leave it alone most of the time.
When most people think of consumer electronics, they think of LG. This company has made a reputation as being one of the top gadget makers, so it makes sense that it would delve into robot vacuums as well. In this case, we have the Hom-Bot. What sets this machine apart from the other is its sleek design (a hallmark of LG products), its seven cleaning modes, and its advanced mapping software.
The Dual Eye 2.0 mapping system ensures that the Hom-Bot cleans efficiently and thoroughly.
That, coupled with an incredible seven cleaning modes means that you can get a lot more done with this vacuum than with most other units. Best of all, it can last up to 100 minutes on a single charge, which is more than enough time to get almost every room in your home.
Other features include a scheduling system, remote control operation, and its auto-resume memory. That means that if it’s interrupted for any reason, it will go back to where it left off and make sure that it doesn’t miss a spot. Overall, a fantastic vacuum.
Our final model is the Botvac from Neato. This is a unique vacuum because it comes with a D-shaped design, which is the most conducive to home cleaning. The straight edges work well in corners while the circular side is great for everything else.
What makes the Botvac so incredible is its mapping software. We’ve discussed already how other units can operate efficiently, but this model is better than the competition.
It uses lasers to figure out where it needs to go and avoids bumping into things to a precise degree. Overall, this is one of the most advanced vacuums you can find.
Additional features include the ability to sync to your smartphone through your home’s wi-fi, the ability to schedule cleanings ahead of time, and tangle-free brushes that work well on carpet and pet hair. Also, it lasts up to an hour on a single charge.
When it comes to tile floors, we prefer to have something that can mop rather than vacuum, which is why we love the Roomba Braava. As far as mopping robots go, this is one of the best you can find. However, if you are more concerned with dry cleaning, then we highly suggest getting the Neato Botvac for its unique D-shaped design and the fact that you can sync and control it from your smartphone. Overall, both of these robots are excellent at cleaning, and they can keep your home as polished and beautiful as you like.
As far as modern problems go, knowing what to look for in a robotic vacuum is something that our ancestors probably would never have imagined in a million years (unless they watched The Jetsons). Nonetheless, here we are. So, let’s take a look at the most common features that you can expect from a robot vacuum and what will make it ideal for your tile flooring.
Most of these units will be around the same size, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t pay attention to the measurements as closely as possible. What you really want to look at is the design and shape of the vacuum as well as the height of the machine. The right model will the be the one that can navigate through your home the most efficiently, and the size and shape can help dictate which one is best for your needs. For example, if you have a lot of furniture then you will want something smaller and thinner so that it can maneuver around obstacles and get under couches and such. However, if you have a lot of open spaces, then you’ll want something larger that won’t take as long to clean the whole surface area.
As for shape, one of the biggest issues is getting into corners and edges, so a D-shaped vacuum is ideal, or something with flat edges on the sides. That way you can ensure that your whole floor gets cleaned without leaving dirt and debris in the hard-to-reach places.
For the most part, robot vacuums can clean an entire room or two before needing to recharge. At the minimum, you need something that can last for up to an hour on a single charge, as that can handle most of your cleaning in one pass. If you have a large house, then you might need something that can last up to 100 or 120 minutes unless you want it to make multiple passes to get everything clean.
The other thing to keep in mind is that your vacuum will need a few minutes to get back to the charging dock, so don’t assume that you’ll get a full 60 or 100 minutes of cleaning time.
As the name suggests, robot vacuums are designed to suck up dirt and debris. However, if you have tile floors, then you know that you have to mop as well. While most of these models will be perfect for picking up dry materials, only a few of them will give you the option of mopping for a total clean. Usually, if a robot vacuum has a “mop” setting it will be limited to the amount of surface area that it can clean before needing to change the brush. However, some units are designed specifically for mopping, meaning that they come with cleaning fluid inside and spray as needed to cover the whole floor.
As a general rule, a robot vacuum is either great for wet or dry cleaning, but rarely can it do both equally well. As such, you might either have to get one of each so that you can clean both ways, or you will have to decide which is more important to you.
I have a passion for clean floors and living areas, so it is no surprise that I know a lot about vacuum cleaners and how to clean different surfaces. Sharing this knowledge gives me a lot of pleasure which is why I started this blog and I hope everyone who needs help will find the help they are looking for here.
